Overview
This article will walk you through the necessary steps to reconcile your monthly Azure usage charges. You can choose to use up to three sources to review your usage.
Prerequisites
You will need:
- Access to Telstra Cloudsight
- At least Cost Management Reader access to your Microsoft Azure services
- Access to your Telstra Invoice
Microsoft Cost Management (previously Azure Cost Management)
Microsoft Cost Management helps you understand and control your Azure spending in near real time. To utilize this tool:
- Log in to your Azure portal.
- Navigate to Cost Management + Billing.
- Select Cost Management from the sidebar.
- Review the cost analysis for the same period as your Telstra bill.
- Download the cost report if needed.
Microsoft Cost Management offers visual insights and detailed breakdowns of your expenses, which can be compared against your Telstra bill and CloudSight usage data. More information on using Microsoft Cost Management is available here.
NOTE: Microsoft Cost Management's default view does not include all of your charges for a given month. An example is Reserved Instances are not displayed without adding them to the view.
Telstra CloudSight
Login to Telstra CloudSight with your MyTelstra credentials. Once logged in navigate to Cost Reporting
Use the drop down to select the historical month usage you would like to download
Select Download CSV
Opening the downloaded file will display a spreadsheet with the aggregated months usage. The columns of importance are:
Column A | Column E | Column H | Column P | Column R | Column S |
Your Telstra Cloud Subscription ID | Azure Service Charge Category | SKU Name | Total Charge for SKU | Charge Start Date | Charge End Date |
This is the subscription identifer for the charges | This will identify which charge the usage falls into on the Telstra invoice | The SKU and Region where usage was billed | Total billable charges for the SKU in the region | First date of the billing month | Last date of the billing month |
Use Column E to filter down Azure Service Charge Category listed on the Telstra invoice
Once a Service Charge Category has been selected the Sum in Column P will equate directly to the Service Charge Category on your Telstra Invoice.
Telstra Invoice
All usage on the Telstra invoice is aggregated to the Azure Plan level. This means all subscriptions are combined on your Telstra bill. Remember the invoice may display 5 different charge types on your invoice which can be reconciled using the TCS usage report table as above.
- PAYG Usage
- Reserved Instances
- Marketplace
- Software Subscriptions
- Savings Plans
Below is an example of how Azure charges may appear on your Telstra invoice.
