Q: What's a Telstra Cloud Connector?
A Telstra Cloud Connector allows you to privately, securely and reliably connect your clouds on Cloud Sight to your Telstra Next IP® network.
Q: Are there prerequisites for adding a Cloud Connector?
You'll need the following to make use of your Cloud Connector.
- A Telstra Next IP® network. If you don't have one, contact us to begin the purchasing process. This could take up to 10 business days.
- For cloud services purchased from Telstra, a Telstra cloud on Cloud Sight. You'll need to have added at least one new or existing cloud. Adding a new cloud may incur fees. Pricing will depend on your choice of cloud service.
After your Cloud Connector is added to Cloud Sight, you'll need to link it to your Next IP network to one or more clouds.
Q: I don't have a Telstra Next IP network service. Can I set up a Cloud Connector with a different network service?
A Cloud Connector is currently only able to link with a Telstra Next IP network service.
Q: Is the Cloud Connector available outside Australia?
No. The Cloud Connector is currently only available to our Australian customers.
Q: I've already got a Telstra Cloud Gateway service. Can I get a Cloud Connector too?
Yes. You can get a Telstra Cloud Connector through Cloud Sight.
If you have an existing active Cloud Gateway service:
- Cloud Connector will operate independently of your Cloud Gateway
- Bandwidth purchased is not transferable between them
Q: How do I get a Telstra Next IP network service?
Contact us to start the process. Please note this can take up to ten business days. Fees will apply.
Q: What clouds are compatible with a Cloud Connector?
- Microsoft Azure from Telstra
- AWS from Telstra
- AWS Direct from Telstra
- BYO Azure and BYO AWS
Q: Does Cloud Connector support public and private peering?
Currently, the Cloud Connector supports only private peering.
Q: How much does a Cloud Connector cost?
The price of a Cloud Connector depends on:
- the type of bandwidth you allocate to it (Telstra bandwidth for Telstra clouds or Non-Telstra bandwidth for BYO clouds)
- the speed of bandwidth you allocate to each type
- the contract term to which you subscribe
There are no set-up fees or fees for moves/adds/changes (MACs).
See all the details on our Cloud Connector pricing guide.
Please note that additional costs will apply if you need a new Next IP service, or a new cloud. Cloud providers may also require you to buy add-ons to link clouds to the Cloud Connector (e.g. Azure ExpressRoute) for which you may incur fees.
Q: How do I add a Cloud Connector?
Simply follow the steps to add a Cloud Connector to your Cloud Sight tenancy.
Note that a Cloud Connector by itself isn't useful. You must:
Q: Does a Cloud Connector have to be in the same workspace as the clouds I'm linking to it?
No. A Cloud Connector can be linked to any clouds within the same Cloud Sight tenancy. The workspace is just a place where you can group it with other assets such as your clouds.
Q: Is there a limit to the number of clouds I can link to the Cloud Connector?
This depends on the amount of bandwidth you choose to allocate to your Cloud Connector .
For example:
You’ve allocated 500Mbps of bandwidth to your Cloud Connector and want to use this bandwidth for accessing clouds purchased through Telstra. You then add a Cloud Connector to which you allocate 300Mbps (of your 500Mbps total). Your remaining available bandwidth for accessing clouds is now 200Mbps.
You can now add subsequent connections to the same Cloud Connector, depending on how you allocate your remaining 200Mbps.
Q: How do I allocate bandwidth to the Cloud Connector?
Bandwidth is allocated when you add a Cloud Connector to your Cloud Sight tenancy.
Q: Can I change the bandwidth allocation to the Cloud Connector?
Yes. You can upgrade your bandwidth at any time. Please note that you will not be able to downgrade the bandwidth below your initial selection until the end of your contract term.
Q: What can I modify on the Cloud Connector?
You can modify certain elements of the Cloud Connector, the Next IP network link and the cloud link. See our user guide for information on:
Q: How do I delete a Cloud Connector?
Follow the steps for deleting a Cloud Connector on our user guide.
Q: What's an FNN?
FNN stands for 'Full National Number'. It is a unique number Telstra assigns to networks and services for purposes of identification.
In this instance, the FNN identifies your Next IP network.
Q: Can I find bandwidth utilisation information?
Yes. There's a Utilisation tab on the details page of every Cloud Connector Link.
Q: How often is the utilisation data updated?
Every 5 minutes. There's a timestamp on the utilisation page that tells you when it was last updated.
